Term network
Next to each input field you will find a button with which you can link the value you entered to a meaning from a thesaurus. You can select these from the thesauri in the Term Network.
KLEKSI offers an (API) link with the NDE Term Network (Digital Heritage Network) in the Netherlands. The user can have the system search an entered word via the Term Network in all existing thesauruses. More than 40 thesauri are searched, such as RKDartists, GTAA, Wikidata or AAT. The system then shows all results found. You can view the results found per thesaurus. For each result found you can see which broader or narrower term belongs to it, which definition provides the meaning found and the associated link to the relevant information. You can make your own choice and link the term that best fits the value you have entered in the relevant field.
In addition to the Term Network, it may also be possible to connect other thesauruses for you on request.
Link term to an object field
For example, if you use the name 'Rembrandt', it is not immediately clear which Rembrandt it is. Rembrandt van Rijn? Rembrandt the Elder? Or do you mean the film 'Rembrandt'? KLEKSI searches directly and in real time in various terminology sources for matching terms via the term network. KLEKSI shows all results found and you simply choose which term it concerns. This way it is clear to every user or researcher who or what you meant.
Link a term to a record from a selection list
You can link each record from a selection list to a term from a thesaurus. For every object where you or another user selects this record, it is automatically linked to the relevant term.
You can link the terms by going to the 'Selection Lists' page via the menu on the left. You will then see an overview of all selection lists. Click on 'Contents list box'. You will receive an overview of all records in the selection list. Click 'Edit' behind the name of a record. Click on the + button to link a term. You can link multiple terms to a record from a selection list.
If you go to the page where you manage the object, the number of terms linked to a record from a drop-down list is displayed with a number in the field where you have selected a record from a drop-down list.
Predicate linking
It is also possible to link predicates to terms from Dublin Core, Schema.org, Europeana DataModel, CIDOC CRM or Wikidata. To link these, go to the 'Object types' page in the menu on the left. Then click on 'Edit structure' behind the object type to which you want to link the predicates. On the left you will see the 'Current structure' with the topics from which the relevant object type can be managed. If you click on a topic you will see the fields that belong to that topic. Click on the name of a field and select 'Select term'.
The system searches the available terminologies for you and displays the results found. This could be 'Same as', 'Consists of' or 'Aplies to'. Choose the predicate that best suits what you want to record. After you have linked this predicate, you can search for a term in the thesauri from the Term Network that best describes the value of the record.
Example
You have created a record 'Archaean' in a selection list.
You choose 'Same as' as the predicate.
You choose the meaning of the word 'Archaean' from the thesaurus 'Wikidata'.
Repeat this step for each predicate. The link between the predicate and the term is implemented everywhere you use this subject and associated fields.
