The digital future of Limburg's heritage received a significant boost this week. In collaboration with the Erfgoed Limburg Cooperative, KLEKSI has successfully completed data migrations for 25 heritage organizations. Additionally, fully configured KLEKSI environments have been realized for 10 organizations, set up according to the cooperative's standards and the national guidelines of the Digital Heritage Network.
With this delivery, dozens of Limburg heritage organizations have a future-proof environment for managing, enriching, preserving, and making their collections accessible. This not only supports daily collection care but also makes a significant contribution to the sustainable digital accessibility of Limburg's heritage.
Heritage with a shared future
Limburg boasts an exceptionally rich heritage sector. From archaeological finds and historical archives to museum collections, religious heritage, industrial heritage, monuments, and intangible traditions. It is the stories, objects, and memories that shape Limburg's identity and deserve to be preserved for future generations as well.
The Erfgoed Limburg Cooperative plays an important role in this. Since its founding, the cooperative has been working to strengthen cooperation between heritage organizations, make heritage information accessible centrally, and improve digital heritage care within the province. By pooling knowledge, expertise, and resources, a strong network is created in which organizations reinforce each other. The current migration process forms an important building block within this shared ambition.
From data cleaning to a functioning collection environment
A successful migration consists of much more than just moving data from one system to another. The project was preceded by an intensive process in which collection data was analyzed, cleaned, standardized, and prepared for migration.
Thanks to the efforts of the involved data cleaners, large amounts of historical data could be carefully checked and improved before being incorporated into the new environment. As a result, the participating organizations have not only modern software but also higher quality and more searchable data.
Following the migrations, the new environments have been set up in accordance with the shared principles of the Coöperatie Erfgoed Limburg and the standards of the Netwerk Digitaal Erfgoed . This makes it easier to sustainably manage collections, exchange data, and make collections more widely accessible to researchers, volunteers, and the public in the future.
Introduction of the updated KLEKSI dashboard
During the handover, the completely renewed KLEKSI dashboard was also presented to the participating organizations for the first time.
The new environment was developed based on feedback from museums, archives, local history societies, documentation centers, and other heritage institutions. User-friendliness, efficiency, and future-proofing were central to this process.
The revamped dashboard offers a modern working environment in which collection managers can work faster, manage information more easily, and gain better insight into their collections. The initial reactions during the introduction and training sessions were particularly positive and confirm that the chosen development direction aligns with the needs of the heritage sector.
Collaboration as a success factor
This project shows what is possible when heritage organizations, cooperatives, and technology partners join forces.
We are particularly grateful to the Erfgoed Limburg Cooperative for their trust and pleasant cooperation throughout the entire process. Additionally, we would like to thank all participating organizations for their active contribution during the preparations, checks, and training. The data cleaners also deserve great appreciation for the extensive work carried out behind the scenes to raise the quality of the collection data to a higher level.
Within our own team, this project required months of preparation. Development, testing, optimization, migration, and support came together in an intensive period during which everyone fully committed to making this result possible.
A model for other heritage networks
More and more heritage organizations are facing the same challenge: how do you ensure that collections are managed sustainably, meet national standards, and at the same time remain accessible to future generations?
The process with the Erfgoed Limburg Cooperative demonstrates that a joint approach offers significant advantages in this regard. By utilizing a shared platform, uniform standards, and a future-proof infrastructure, a strong foundation is created for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustainable digital heritage care.
KLEKSI now supports a growing number of museums, archives, heritage associations, documentation centers, and other collection-managing organizations in this digital transformation.
We look forward to continuing to guide the participating organizations in the coming period and to continuing to build the digital future of Limburg's heritage together.
