Object data that you make public can optionally be linked to the dataset register of the Network Digital Heritage (NDE). This register enables third parties to reuse your public data for various purposes. For example, a website about the Second World War can show objects from your collection that relate to that period, making your collection more discoverable via additional channels.
In order to make your collection accessible via the dataset registry, a link is set up that ensures that new data is automatically included in the registry. This link is only activated on request. Please let us know if you want this functionality to be set up for your collection or because you want to be able to work NDE-compatible.
What is a dataset and how does the link work?
A dataset, or data collection, consists of data or metadata, such as information about heritage objects, archives, or museum collections. This data is often managed in an archive management or collection registration system and made accessible via a website. With the dataset registry, these datasets can easily be shared for reuse, for example via a data dump (export) or an API. This is ideal for institutions that want to offer their data to service portals or aggregators to reach a wider audience.
