What is DERA

The abbreviation DERA stands for Digital Heritage Reference Architecture and provides direction to collaborating parties, in this case to make heritage information more visible in the Digital Heritage Network. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) owns the DERA. The DERA is being developed by a working group that includes representatives of the Digital Heritage Network (NDE).

Users want to be able to find digital heritage as well as possible. As a collection manager, you must provide your material with unambiguous terms. KLEKSI is linked to the NDE Terms Network. For example, if you use the name 'Rembrandt', it is not immediately clear which Rembrandt it is. Rembrandt van Rijn? Rembrandt the Elder? Or do you mean the movie 'Rembrandt'? KLEKSI searches through the term network directly and in real time in different terminology sources for matching terms. KLEKSI shows all the results found and you simply choose which term it concerns. In this way it is clear to every user who or what you mean.

Linked data is a standard for linking information together and sharing it with the rest of the world. Museums and heritage institutions manage a wealth of information. With the help of KLEKSI, this is digitally stored and (partly) publicly available via their own websites. With the help of LOD, these collections are more useful because the information is interconnected.

Preventing link rot, i.e. when a clicked link no longer works, is important in making and keeping digital collections accessible. This is addressed with a durable persistent identifier (PID). This means that digital objects always remain available online at the same location. KLEKSI generates its own PIDs and also supports PIDs from the Handle System.

In order to provide you with even faster and better service, KLEKSI uses machine learning. As a result, KLEKSI learns from your previous actions and quickly returns the results that best suit the object in question. Suppose you add an object from Utrecht. Then the terms that are relevant to the term 'Utrecht' are displayed. Or if you document a painting by Rembrandt, the system retrieves all relevant terms that apply.
